The
Paintings of Paul Cezanne : A Catalogue Raisonne by John Rewald,
Walter Feilchenfeldt, Jayne Warman, Walter Felchenfeldt (Contributor)
The New York Times Book Review, Michael Kimmelman The Paintings
of Paul Cezanne: A Catalogue Raisonne, finally published in two volumes,
is as much a monument to Rewald as it is to the artist he revered....
One can sense his commitment even in the Cezanne catalogue, reference book
though it is, which allowed him to ruminate about much of whatever interested
him.... It should go without saying that the catalogue is a trove
of bibliographical and other nuts-and-bolts details.

Francoise Cachin
You may hesitate, as we did, at the sight of yet another book about
Cezanne, but this handsomely produced retrospective volume is without question
the grandest of them all. The superb reproductions (258 in the best color
and crispest focus this reviewer has ever seen and 350 in rich black-and-white)
document the artist's entire revolutionary oeuvre, from his earliest pencil
drawings to his watercolors, sketchbooks, and magnificent paintings. The
commentary, based on meticulous research by Cachin--curator, scholar, and
president of the National Museums of France--and her esteemed colleagues,
is of the highest order, penetrating and illuminating in its interpretations
of the man, his work, and his enormous influence on modern art. Donna Seaman
Paul
Cezanne (Masters of Art Series) by Meyer Schapiro, Mike Cezanne
(Photographer)
As an art student Paul Cezanne became the paragon upon which I measured
all other subsequent painters. The writer that taught me to see him as
the North Star in that vast, swirling sky of artists was Meyer Schapiro.
Having read the above book literally a dozen or more times I have found
that it is an inexhaustible treasure. Mr. Schapiro's insights are both
scholarly and poetic. He above all seems to understand that Cezanne, while
instrumental as a precursor to cubism, was first and foremost a great individual
artist.
Cezanne
: Landscape into Art by Pavel Machotka - Book Description
This beautiful book presents a new perspective on C_zanne`s landscape paintings,
comparing them to color photographs of the same sites. Machotka, himself
an artist, provides a close and thorough examination of how Czanne transformed
nature into art, and the result is an original and illuminating study of
the great painter`s methods and techniques.
